STATE ARCHIVES IN KATOWICE

The State Archives in Katowice is part of the network of historical archives in Poland. Its history goes back to 1932, when the first state historical archive in the history of this region was created in Katowice, in the Polish part of Upper Silesia. It was then called the Archives of Historical Records of the Silesian Voivodship (Archiwum Akt Dawnych Województwa Śląskiego). Currently, its resources, dating back to the 13th century, include documentation prepared in the eastern part of Silesia and in the western part of Lesser Poland.

Organizationally, the Archives are divided into the Headquarters in Katowice and 5 branch offices in Bielsko-Biała, Cieszyn, Gliwice and Racibórz.
